If you can look for a company that provides an animated working demo of their software program.  These provide you with a chance to view the GUI and all its functions.  Plus also look for a website where they offer to show you the user’s guide for their product which you can then look at and use their step by step procedures contained within it to see how it really performs.  This in turn provides you with a chance to evaluate the software more fully.  Generally you will find that these demos can be downloaded for free, simply because the company who have developed and produced this kind of data recovery software are looking for you to see how well it works and hopefully get you to purchase theirs.  However you will find that these demo versions do not allow you to actually save the data you have recovered through using this particular software.  The only real way you will be able to achieve this is through purchasing a license for the software. 

However when using any demo versions of data recovery software you should not run it on the corrupt drive.  Instead what you should be doing is running on a copy of it as you may well discover that as the software program runs it could actually overwrite the original data and this in turn will be deleted and you will not be able to recover it at the end.
